Zippy is a digital marketer by profession, like every young corporate in Kampala, she started a side hustle “Nywele Shari” an afro hair extension business. She had just started her business right before the lock down against COVID-19.

“I made the assumption that women would not be willing to spend money on hair extensions, they would be more concerned with buying food and necessities for their families. I honestly lost all hope for my business” Zippy says.

When she heard about the Outbox EDU female founders bootcamp her business wasn’t online. “One would think because of my profession, the first step for me would be to put my business online however, that was not the case.”

Zippy says she knew the basics of digital marketing but never really went in depth and had not really got the opportunity to start with her business before the class.

The first criteria for the class was that the founders need to have opened social media pages for their businesses which is what she did right before she joined.

The most pivotal moment for her in the class was the talk with Rogers Kagoda, the founder of Adiloits about transformation. After the class she learnt how to empathize with her customers and started creating hair care content since salons are still closed as a security measure against COVID-19. She uses her extensions while creating content and this in turn drives sales!

Short to medium impact of the class was that it gave her a mindset that anything is possible if you take the first step towards your goal.
