Outride.rs is looking for multimedia reporters from all around the world to create remote newsroom working on interactive reporting.

Our mission is to show global issues having a local impact. To achieve it, we are looking for a team of devoted and a bit crazy freelance journalists from all around the world. Together we will work on single or cross-border stories which will serve the audience because of their solution-oriented approach and they will be delivered in a fantastic format

Why multimedia? Because we want to deliver to audience complex issues in an engaging way + we love to experiment with it.

Who are we looking for?

A perfect candidate? A person who is happy to deal with various media formats — photos, video, text — and loves to combine them all. Someone who is not afraid to switch formats if the story demands it.

If you are:

  • a journalist with a proven professional experience
  • familiar with global affairs
  • active on social media channels

and if you are interested in our offer, then please familiarise yourself with our mission, values, editorial policy and rules of cooperation.

What is our offer?

Teamwork is super important to us. We believe this is the only way to achieve what’s best in journalism for our audience. Your stories will be supported by the design, code, fundraising, distributing and promoting efforts. When we say fundraising what we mean, is that we can help you find funds for your own projects. When working for us you will, of course, be paid :)

What we want to achieve by this call is to create a collective group — working on various stories, but we don’t want to be looking for new people every time we have a new idea. Great things come from a long-lasting relationship.

Location

In the first round of our invitation we will give preference to journalists based in and covering:

  • The Middle East
  • Central Asia
  • South East Asia
  • East Asia
  • Sub-Saharan Africa
  • USA

About Outride.rs

Outride.rs was established as a medium in 2017 and officially launched on September 26th, 2017, when the initial crowdfunding campaign began. We specialize in interactive and new formats of telling stories. Our philosophy is: although many stories do not happen in some countries, yet they play a crucial and important role in societies’ life. Lack of original reporting can lead to many forms of mis/disinformation, and we provide coverage of such issues.

We do this by bringing a global perspective, listening to communities, storytelling, and in-depth coverage. Being aware of changes societies are facing, we find new ways of telling stories by translating old forms into a digital language — reinventing contextual articles, using multimedia and interactive forms, building cross-border collaborations. In this way, we make it complex, more informative and preserve the ethics and protocols which we consider essential.

Outride.rs produces:

  • Interactives — in-depth stories produced over a more extended period.
  • Features — context and annotated approach to regular articles.
  • Brief — weekly newsletter concerning global issues.
  • Exhibitions — we organize live, in-person meetings with the community, where they share the stories, experience and offer a possibility to ask questions freely.
  • Lab — a media literacy section.

Outride.rs accomplishments:

  • Grand Press Digital 2017 for best Polish digital journalism project — Outride.rs
  • 2018 nomination for Mediatory award — for introducing journalism into stories format on Instagram and Facebook.
  • 2017 a nomination to the Mediatory Award — for initiating ground-breaking journalism projects.
  • The Hostwriter pitch prize for cross-border project Deep Breath.
  • A finalist of global Editor’s Lab hackathon in Vienna.
  • A winner of Editor’s Lab hackathon in Warsaw.
