Recent enough to feel like pieces of our lives but old enough to feel nostalgic, these 90s movies have everything we love about the underrated decade of cinema. This week we’re recommending five awesome 90s fan favorites that aren’t on Netflix or Hulu.

Clueless (1995)

Clueless (Paramount)

No 90s list would be complete without this classic teen comedy. Silly but serious, the quotable Cher Horowitz stands up as one of the greatest characters of her era. Young Paul Rudd also makes it worth the re-watch.

Thelma and Louise (1991)

Thelma and Louise (MGM)

Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon slay in this timeless road movie, worth watching way beyond the end of its release decade. It focuses on the profundity and power of female friendship, but also boasts Brad Pitt’s screen introduction to the world, making it an ideal artifact of 90s movie history.

Glengarry Glen Ross (1992)

Glengarry Glen Ross (Lionsgate)

If you’re looking for something with a more macho feel, Glengarry Glen Ross revels in the absurdities of masculine workplace culture. Full of legendary monologues spoken by prolific actors (Alec Baldwin, Al Pacino, Ed Harris, Kevin Spacey) some of the greatest lines of the 90s are in this movie.

Don’t Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood (1996)

Don’t Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood (Miramax)

This spoof rewards the fans of other popular 90s hits. Satirizing Boyz N the Hood, South Central and Poetic Justice, Shawn and Marlon Wayans write and star in their first feature length parody.

The Birdcage (1996)

The Birdcage (MGM)

It may be an adaptation of 1978's French farce La Cage aux Folles, but Nathan Lane and Robin Williams give this hilarious movie a distinct 90s flavor (under Mike Nichols’ deft direction). Centering on an openly gay cabaret-owning couple in Miami whose straight son is getting married to a straight-laced family, this movie does not get old.

Bonus for those in the 90s spirit! Can you crack our Clueless Quiz?
