This month we welcome two new Shortlisters to the Tribeca Shortlist family. What’s a Shortlister, you ask? A Shortlister is a person deeply enmeshed in and passionate about the movie biz—be they actors, directors, producers, cinematographers—who recommend movies they love now streaming on Tribeca Shortlist.

We’re thrilled to welcome Taika Waititi into the Shortlister family. Waititi is the New Zealand-born writer, director, and actor behind the fantastic films Boy, Eagle vs Shark, the incredible vampire mockumentary What We Do in the Shadows, and last year’s charming Hunt for the Wilderpeople. He’s currently in post-production for the huge Marvel spectacular Thor: Ragnarok.

In his shortlist “That Awkward Moment” Taika chooses films that are both cringe-worthy and binge-worthy, movies where awkward and strange people are put into exciting and extraordinary circumstances. Check out the playlist below and see why he loves the Monty Python-filled A Fish Called Wanda, the effortlessly cool Swingers, and Adam Sandler’s stunning performance in Punch-Drunk Love. We love that he put these three films together, and think they make a perfect weekend triple feature.

Watch all of Taika Waititi’s Shortlist recommendations in the playlist above, and then click below to stream the three movies on Tribeca Shortlist.
