We shared our app with WalkMedford at one of their meetings. They were very excited about the concept, but they had iPhones and were unable to test the app on their own after it was launched in the Google Play Store.

Monsurat passed her phone around at the meeting to gather feedback from WalkMedford volunteers so we could still get some feedback.

Their suggestions:

  • Indicate how many miles away the user is from historical sites
  • Add more sites (they seemed interested in providing additional content)
  • Create an iPhone version
  • Talk to local schools with Android development groups about handling the app after the class is over

We would definitely like to add the mileage information to the app and we added some extra sites after we met with them. Creating an iPhone version is out of scope for us right now, since we’d have to start over from scratch.

We exchanged some emails with a local teacher at Medford’s middle school, who will be running an app development club in the future. Unfortunately, he’s planning on using App Inventor, which uses a visual programming interface, rather than Android Studio. Right now, we don’t have our hopes up for finding a group that will take over development.
