Just South of Mt. Hood near the intersection of 35 and 26 you can hop on the Barlow Road and go for miles. (Maupin) One weekend in early June we set out to explore this area. It’s mostly an easy going fire-road however there are some side trails and river crossings that get more interesting.

I use an iPad mini with blue tooth GPS. This makes wandering around much easier.
Just a little ways in on the trail is a nice large meadow.
Along the route there are a few well established camp areas.

Imagine doing this with all your worldly possessions in a horse and wagon.
