Mt Hood viewed from the East

East of the Cascade range lies a huge section of Oregon which is chocked-full of juniper, quail, rattlesnakes and dry canyons. Having lived in the Central part of Oregon for almost 5 years I decided to organize a route to show folks a few of my favorite spots on the “dry side” of Oregon. The twist was we’d all bring vintage European off-road rigs.

June 24th a small group of us met up in Maupin, OR at the Oasis Cabin Resort and set out on a 100 mile loop from the desert to the mountains, along the ridge line and back down to the desert. About 10 miles were pavement, the rest were trails, forrest roads as well as a portion of the famous Barlow Trail.

It’s smiles when you take these old rigs way out in the middle of nowhere, testing both the machine and yourself. From negotiating obstacles to field repairs there is never a dull moment.
