A Laid-Back Chat with OVERTAKE’s Deal-Maker, Alison Shim
“Real value comes from real usage. The token is just the layer that connects it all.”
– OVERTAKE CBO Alison Shim.

Could you start with a quick self-intro?
Alison
Hey, I’m Alison. I started my career as a consultant at Accenture, focusing on the financial services sector. That’s where my curiosity for fintech began to grow. In 2017, I dove into crypto right in the middle of the ICO boom. After three intense years in the Web3 trenches, I stepped back into traditional finance by joining KakaoPay, Korea’s leading fintech platform, to gain perspective on what scalable financial infrastructure really looks like.
But the pull of Web3 never left. I returned to the ecosystem through Factblock, the host of Korea Blockchain Week, where I helped bridge global projects with the Korean market. Eventually, I felt the urge to build again, this time with a sharper sense of purpose. That led me to Overtake, where I now serve as Chief Business Officer, leading partnerships, growth, and everything in between.

You had a comfy TradFi career. Why jump to Web3 — and why OVERTAKE?
Alison
I loved my time in Web2 fintech. At KakaoPay, I got to see how real financial infrastructure is built at scale, and it taught me a lot about trust and usability. But deep down, I was still curious: What comes after this?
What brought me back to Web3 was that I saw it as an unfinished story. I still believe in its potential, but I also knew we had to move past the chaos and build things that actually work. That’s why I joined Overtake. No magic tricks. Just a team quietly building a product people actually want to use. It felt refreshingly grown up, but still a little rebellious. Right up my alley.

How do you and Captain SH split responsibilities?
Alison
Captain SH leads the ship. He oversees everything from product, to token design, to overall strategy. My role is to bridge the gap between what we are building and how the world experiences it. I focus on translating between the Web2 and Web3, internal and external, product and market.
I lead business development, partnerships, marketing, and token strategy. In short, anything that helps bring our product to life in the hands of users and partners. SH drives the core engine, and I make sure it connects with the world in a way that fuels growth.
Interviewer
Give me the business model in three sentences.
Alison
Our business model is simple. We take a small fee from successful peer-to-peer transactions. In two words: transaction fees.
Interviewer
Seriously — why a token at all?
Alison
$TAKE is not just our token. It’s the utility layer that connects users to core features of the Overtake ecosystem. It plays a central role in reducing fees, unlocking premium tools, and enabling trust mechanisms like seller staking and buyer protection. As platform activity grows, so does the demand for $TAKE through organic usage and marketplace-driven buybacks. This creates a healthy feedback loop where value is driven by real utility, not speculation.
Interviewer
What’s on your 12-month roadmap?
Alison
- Summer 2025 — Foundation: Launch $TAKE through TGE, open Seller’s Shops, and activate core utilities like fee discounts and buybacks. Begin TGE marketing with creators, partners, and early communities.
- Fall 2025 — Engagement: Introduce rewards and membership programs. Expand token use with seller staking and buyer protection. Run co-marketing and mission-based campaigns to deepen engagement.
- Winter 2025 — Access: Launch TakePay for fiat-to-crypto payments. Improve onboarding for Web2 users. Start regional marketing, offline events, and targeted user acquisition.
- Early 2026 — Scale: Expand marketplace features and $TAKE utilities. Launch large-scale growth campaigns across Web2 and Web3. Strengthen community through advanced features and ecosystem collaborations.

You ran Korea Blockchain Week (KBW). Where’s the Web3 momentum heading?
Alison
Web3 is no longer about building hype, it is about building rails. We are seeing a shift from speculative activity to practical infrastructure, especially around how value moves online. Stablecoins are leading this quietly. They are already powering real transactions across borders and platforms without users even realizing it.
What comes next is digital economic participation. People are spending more time online than ever, not just consuming but creating, trading, and building communities. Web3 gives them new ways to participate in that value flow directly, without middlemen or gatekeepers. Overtake is focused on making that participation seamless. Not by shouting crypto, but by embedding trust and liquidity where users already are. That is where the real momentum is heading.
