We’re very excited to finally reveal our new website beta!

As most of you know, the old website has been around for many years, even before CurseForge joined Overwolf.

We know that for a long time, you’ve been making requests and asking for various website improvements.

And today, we’re happy to finally take those first steps. As the name implies, this is a Beta release, meaning not all functionality has been ported yet. So we expect it to be a bit buggy.

If you have any feedback on the new pages, or encounter any bugs — please let us know, so we could take care of them as soon as possible.

What does the Beta website include?

The beta website currently includes 4 main pages: Homepage, Game Page, Search Page, and Project Page.

After initial feedback and bug fixes on those pages, we will start working on the remaining pages, such as Profile page, Notifications, Announcements, etc.

The Authors among you must be asking about the project creation and management pages. Well, we have some good news for you, as we’re going to rebuild the entire flow for creating a project, uploading files and images, managing settings and more. These will be implemented in the new Authors Portal!

Work has started but it will still take some time before we can release anything there. Expect more news to follow when relevant. Until then, the project creation and management flow will remain on the old site.

Now we’d like to go over what you can expect to see in the new pages as part of the beta!

Homepage

First of all, you’ll notice the Dark theme on the new Homepage and the rest of the site. This is to align with the CurseForge colors theme, and create a more modern look and feel.

MegaNav-Bar — At the top you’ll see our new website navigation bar. It will provide all the relevant links and information needed for either Players or Authors, as well as an easy way to jump to different games.

Homepage Search bar — This new search bar currently lets you search only for games. Further down the line we want to add the ability to search for Mods/Addons/CC/etc. directly from the homepage

News Carousel — An eye-catching carousel that will allow you to get the latest updates on various topics: community, platform, additional discoverability, and more!

“New” Shelf — Here you’ll be able to see some newly released projects every day.

Featured Projects — Interesting new projects handpicked by the staff.

Game Page

The new game page has a very different design, aimed to help with better discoverability for a variety of projects.

Search — A new search algorithm! We know the old website’s search isn’t great. We’ve worked to rebuild the search algorithm to provide much more relevant results, but it is still a work in progress. It will show the most relevant results according to Name, Summary, Description and Categories.

The ability to search by Author or a Project ID, will be added in future updates.

Next to the search bar, you have the Categories dropdown menu, where you can see all of the games’ Classes and Primary Categories. You can use it to jump directly to a search page filtered by those categories.

Shelves — Instead of immediately showing all projects in a certain Class, the new default of the game page showcases different promotional shelves. This allows us to customize what can be easily discovered, and change the format to see what works best. At the moment, shelves can be customized according to the following categories/filters: Popular, Latest or Featured, per Class. More options will be added in the future.

Search Page

Choosing a Category or using the search bar from the game page will take you to the new Search page.

The new page allows you to easily navigate between different classes, and search by multiple categories at the same time, along with free text search.

Filtering according to game versions or game flavor is not fully implemented yet, but should be available soon.

Project Page

Image Gallery — The first thing you’ll see in the new project page is the Image Gallery. Any project with uploaded images will have this at the top above the description. Including eye-catching and informative images really helps players know what a project is about, and converts to more downloads.

On the side bar, we’re showing the different versions and flavors supported by this project. Max display is 5, and you can click on the “View All” to go to the Files tab. Below that, you have the different categories, Main and recent files per version. Lastly, the project members display.

Comments Tab — The comments have been moved to a dedicated tab instead of below the Description. Commenting is still not available on the new website until further updates.

Files Tab — The new tab immediately shows you the list of all files in the projects, including version and flavor information, with filtering options.

The filters right now aren’t fully implemented as with the Search page, and some games may be missing their specific flavor. In addition we’ll be looking to add a Release Type filter.

Images Tab — Mostly the same, but now when you have more than 1 image, it opens as a gallery — so you don’t have to click on each image separately.

Relations & Issues Tab — These, along with some additional pages, are currently still redirecting to the old website. These will be redone in future updates.

And that’s it! We’d love to hear from you exactly what you think of the new website. Which changes did you like, and which didn’t you like so much? What would you like to see more? We hope you’re excited about it as we are. Again, keep in mind this is just the first step of leveling up the CurseForge website, and we’re in it together. So buckle up, sit tight, and enjoy the ride!
