I’m single but I’ve been celebrating Valentine’s Day with my coworkers for 2 years now and I’m not sad about it. Trust me.
Well last year, we bought each other’s flowers and chocolate and went out for a fancy lunch together. However, this year, everyone’s working from home because of COVID-19, some even are working in their home countries, so we’re technically in a “long-distance workingship”.
Even so, we still managed to celebrate Valentine’s together, and here’s how it went.
Virtual Spatial Platform With the Rules of Reality
Currently, we are using oVice virtual office for remote work. It’s an avatar-based spatial platform where you can meet with your team, move, and talk just like in real life. The sound of your voice will get louder if you approach someone and lower if you move away. That’s why it works well for both business and social online communication. So we thought why not switch the space into a small party venue and turn it into a love-themed space to celebrate Valentine’s day.

Valentine’s Theme Office Customization
oVice is very customizable and fun to play with. They offer free layout backgrounds for whatever purpose you will be using it for and you can add your company’s logo, useful website links, videos, and even build as many conference rooms as you like.
I was in charge of the customization so I basically kept the coworking space background layout and I placed down some flowers, pickets, and Snoopy Gifs to make it more dynamic. Oh! And I also kept Charlie, our virtual dog, to keep the space cozy.
Playing Valentine’s Day Trivia & Karaoke
Right after our meeting, we chose a list of questions and we played Valentine’s Trivia while adding some romantic background music. The questions were a bit harder than we expected so most of us got them wrong lol But we had a good laugh singing “BEN E. KING’s Stand By Me” together in a high-pitched voice.
When it comes to celebrations, it doesn’t really matter if you’re thousands of miles apart as long as you can meet together online and have the same fun and interaction you normally have in a real-life situation.
