The New Android Compatible World Scale Augmented Reality App is Ready for Download

Great news for the OVR community!
We have released a new version of the OVR App on Google Play Store (download it here) that is now supported by all Android phones 7.0 and above with a working gyroscope! Since most Androids built over the past few years have these, this means virtually all Android devices should now be able to download and install the OVR App.
A universal Android app
We have listened to feedback from our community and have been collecting information on how to better improve our app. We worked hard to make those improvements and we believe this latest Android release will please a lot of people.
Our latest release has integrated a gyroscope-based AR experience to permit the majority of Android users to explore their world through OVR and play our treasure hunting game.
Google is constantly updating the list of ARCore/ARKit (the software needed to run true AR applications) supported devices — the full list can be found at https://developers.google.com/ar/discover/supported-devices.
With this update, the app will recognize if the device is capable or not to support the augmented reality native tracking (ARCore) and automatically selects the type of UX. With the gyroscope-only experience, users can’t translate in the space looking around the AR content but will be able to see treasure chests in front of them. This technology is the same used by Pokemon Go.
What’s next for OVR?
We have some really big things in store and we can already confirm that we’re working on the introduction of AR minigames connected with the treasure hunting. Users will be engaged with amazing experiences and can earn more tokens playing games of skill.
We’re also working hard to deploy the first version of the SDK to permit the very first OVRCreators to begin developing AR experiences anchored to the OVRLands. In essence, the community will soon be able to create experiences for each other.
Meanwhile, part of the team is working on the tokens and lands emission, building an absolutely engaging experience revolving around the opportunity to be the first buyers of strategic OVRLands and to be the first to anchor AR experiences viewable by the community users.
