Villanova fosters a strong sense of on campus community, and I want to continue to build upon that for the College of Arts and Sciences. Making sure that every student feels welcome in our college is important, and we can only succeed in this goal together. So what is campus climate and what makes it such a crucial part of keeping Villanova community driven?

Campus climate is “the current attitudes, behaviors and standards of faculty, staff, administrators and students concerning the level of respect for individual needs, abilities and potential.” — Susan Rankin

Our university has made great strides towards a healthier campus climate, but there will always be underlying issues. I want all Villanovans to work together to root these issues out.

How we can improve:

  • Recognize, support, and encourage individuals and groups who contribute to positive campus dialogue.
  • Sponsor or aid events and activities that highlight issues of equity, inclusion, and diversity on campus.
  • Start an SGA messaging campaign that highlights members of the Villanova community who promote inclusion.

These three ideas are a simple start, but together we can grow them into something more. Making Villanova an inclusive environment is extremely important to me. Any groups or students who wish to meet with me to discuss issues of diversity and inclusion are always encouraged to do so.
