Many of the candidates we work with are consistently concerned about having to relocate for a new career. This is completely normal, and one of the major issues that faces the American economy. In 2012, the U.S. Census Bureau reported that only 11.6% of people relocated for a job and Harvard Business Review cites that of workers surveyed only 44% of people are willing to relocate for a new job (HBR, 2012). This means, you are not alone and the great news is, for many careers, you do not have to relocate.

With the ever-expanding connectivity of the American society, evolution in online management tools and workstations, it is now more than ever, feasible to work remotely in a new career field. Forward thinking companies like Amazon, Microsoft, and American Express have already accepted the work from anywhere model and consistently hire virtual employees. This trend will continue as we move forward in the digital age.

To align yourself with this movement and enter career fields that don’t require you to relocate requires you to plan and prepare. At OweYaa,we do this with your personalized career plan. We help you execute extensive research in relevant fields, identify the ones you are most desiring to work in, and align your training to fit into those niches. The work from anywhere model is expanding into multiple career fields including customer retention, marketing, customer service, programming/development, and many more. Don’t have a background in those specific fields? Just as we discussed in our previous article “Finding the Parallel Career” we can often take your background and with training create opportunities for you in these fields.

Now, remote careers are not all created equal and for some they aren’t a viable option. However, the next time you are considering a relocation for a career ask yourself vital questions that ensure the move is right for you, and always consider the option for remote careers. If you need help doing this, the folks at OweYaa are standing by to help and we can even let you explore a remote career through one of our online internships!
