Did you know the famous address was preceded by another address by a guy named Edward Everett? The address, not as famous as Lincoln’s, was 13,000 words long and lasted over two hours. Lincoln’s speech is one of the best you’ll read, but don’t you think that after two hours of reading over 13,000 words that people were pretty much ready for anything else?

I mean, couldn’t one theoretically stand up and spit circus peanuts out while making armpit farts and get a standing ovation after that?

Just thinking out loud.
