September was a busy month at Own HQ, as we developed some exciting new features for our platform — particularly our new Decentralised Share Register (DSR), which has just gone live. You can visit our DSR page now or continue reading for a full update on OWN’s latest technology developments.

What we’ve been up to — our key developments in summary:

  • Decentralised Share Register (DSR)
  • Additional Registers
  • Asset Management Module
  • Business Profile
  • Business Registration Workflow
  • CSV Upload
  • Login and Registration using Google, Facebook and OWN Identity Service
  • OWN blockchain integration
  • Registry Management Grid
  • Shareholder Management Module
  • Support Chat Integration
  • Transaction Management Module
  • User Profile
  • Blockchain
  • Performance Tuning
  • Synchronisation and networking protocol integration
  • Staking Logic

If you’d like to know more about some of these updates, here are some further insights…

DSR: simplifying shareholder management

Technology aside, one of our key missions at Own is making our products extremely accessible, and many of the features of our Decentralised Share Register have been designed to offer a seamless user experience.

For example, in September we created the ability to log-on using both an OWN login and via Google and Facebook. These login choices are something that we want to offer across all our products, so that people can make use of all our applications with one set of credentials — rather than having to create new logins for each one.

There are lots of further features within the DSR that will help financial organisations to utilise their shareholder details more effectively and securely. Among the functionality we have developed over the past few weeks are modules for managing shareholder data, assets and transactions, as well as enabling online registration. We’ve also done extensive blockchain integration to create the architecture on which the DSR runs — but more on that later.

Another important thing to note about our Decentralised Share Register is that we’ve created a chat support function, so that if any of our users get stuck at any point in time, we can offer them the technical expertise required to get maximum value from our platform.

Easy as CSV

One key new feature worth singling out is our easy-to-use CSV function. To make adding or updating data quicker than ever, we’ve given users the ability to drag-and-drop CSV files once they’ve set up an account and business registration workflow.

These files will be automatically parsed and validated, before being integrated into the shareholder register.

Enhancing blockchain architecture for future developments

OWN’s blockchain is an integral part of our new DSR as it enables asset tokenisation — converting a data asset into an online token that securely represents sensitive information, and can be assigned or transferred to shareholders without risk of a data breach. We achieved this through the CreateAsset and TransferAsset actions; click here to find out more about the technology behind asset tokenisation.

These latest blockchain developments have been made possible because of our unique Asset Management Protocol. The modules we’ve created for our new DSR technology are tightly connected to our blockchain functionality, particularly the transaction management module. This supports the transfer of shares from one shareholder to another, as well as enabling business owners to create new owners for available shares.

One great strength of the work we’ve done recently is that, although it’s being used to run our DSR, the Equity Platform we’re creating will be able to support all the products we’re currently developing. The Decentralised Share Register really is the first in a universe of products that OWN can develop to help businesses run better.
