Addicted To Beef? Idk Maybe…

DO ONE THING: This is my very first year doing my DOT (Do One Thing) project and I have recently learned a lot about what I eat. I plan on changing my diet by going BEEFLESS. Although there are lots of rumors and myths about beef being an important part of our diets, it isn’t necessarily good for you. It may have lean protein and some healthy fat but in reality, humans aren’t meant to eat meat. You can get all of your nutrients and protein from plants. I know I seem a little hypocritical when I say I’m going to change my diet but I’m still eating chicken and pork. Well, I need to take baby steps. Slow and steady wins the race.

THE BEGINNING OF IT ALL: One day while in science class with my amazingly informative science teacher, Mrs. Riggen, we watched this documentary called Cowspiracy and it opened up my mind. It showed me the impact that I have just by buying products from businesses that don’t really care about the environment. If you buy a hamburger, it is equivalent to 660 gallons of water, which is equal to showering for two months. This was very shocking because on a monthly basis I eat about 2–3 burgers. This means it takes 1320 gallons of water to produce the burgers I eat. This is also equivalent to showering for four months.

On Monday 27, 2017 I will begin my journey of going BEEFLESS and collect data over a four week time period. At the end of the four weeks, I will collect data and find out how I have decreased the amount of fresh water used for my enjoyment.
