Done! My suffering has finally come to an end (Well, the Do One Thing project has actually been over since April 14th, but whatever). I no longer need to be vegetarian! And thats great, I guess.

Going vegetarian had an impact all right. According to the data I collected, I have saved 57 ounces of meat in just 4 weeks!

This may not seem like it would make a big difference, but if everyone in the United States (328 billion people) went vegetarian, we could save about 14.8 billion pounds of meat in only a year (assuming that everyone had my same habits before I started the project)! In fact, if the whole world went vegetarian, we would have an even bigger impact! Going vegetarian could help prevent climate change by greatly reducing the CO2 gas emissions and can also reduce the amount of water we use to produce our food.

Even though going vegetarian is great for the environment and all, I’m not sure I will be going vegetarian any time in the immediate future. It was a great experience, and I’m glad that I tried it, but going vegetarian just isn’t really my thing. I mean, there’s so so many tasty foods that have meat in it. To be honest, I didn’t really think that I was going to last the full 28 days without eating meat. The only thing that kept me from eating meat was the fact that this was a project for school and that I kept telling myself that I only need to last a certain time until I’m off the hook. Overall it was a fun and challenging experience, and I may try going vegetarian sometime later (though I’m like 99.9% sure I won’t).

Right after the DOT project ended, I went right back to eating meat and I have been eating some kind of meat almost everyday. I know, it kind of, really goes against everything I did for the DOT project, but at least I tried! At least I did something to be more sustainable, even if it was for just a sort period of time. So maybe you should try to take action too — do something more sustainable, even if it’s not permanent at least it’s something!

Let’s get down to business. Not to defeat the Huns, but to be more sustainable. Let’s get down to business to improve Earth’s environment.
