A plastic addiction worse than ever.

So as a regular consumer of plastic I never thought much of the consequence of my $1 plastic bottle that I had recently thrown out without thinking twice. But then I learned about the so-called Plastic Paradise. A large island the size of Texas floating somewhere in the Pacific ocean and I decided to look into it as the idea of something that large that was caused by man and would never truly go away was crazy to me. Of course the results horrified me. I felt it was my priority to reduce the amount of plastic that is thrown out and eventually thrown into our water sources and make as much a change as was humanly possible. This was my inspiration to Do One Thing.

This is our planet — our home. As much as we think that it is fine, we realize slowly but surely that what we require to use and what the Earth can handle are two massively different quantities. We as a community must do whatever we can day by day in order to sustain a truly green and healthy planet. We shouldn’t all just do ONE thing that we can. We should do everything we can.

As for the change that I am making with my DOT Project, I will be recycling around 32 lbs of single-use plastics in just one month. This would be skyrocketed to about 384 pounds of plastic per year. This would be amazingly helpful and would help out in so many ways. Of course all this would diminish the market value of Plastic Waste Management but all in good purpose. However to turn this into a global initiative would be astounding and accumulate to about 240 Billion lbs worldwide.
