People say going vegetarian is hard. Those people are losers unless they have tried it before — in that case, respect. When you hear someone say “I’m going vegetarian” you say oh wow that's great, but in your head your like I could never do that, at least that’s what I think. But now that I have the opportunity to go vegetarian for a month (or more) I am going to take advantage of it.

I chose to go vegetarian for a few reasons:

First, it can be healthy. What I mean is that some people are like “I’m going vegetarian so I can be healthy.” But they don’t understand that eating Takis and candy, but not eating meat, is not healthy. The way I’m doing it will be healthy, I will eat fruits and vegetables at least 3 times a day. And I will eat more grains and nuts.

Second, it is way better for the environment. For example, 51% of Green House Gas emissions are resulting from animal agriculture. Also, 1 acre of forest land is cut down every second for animal agriculture. 1 burger takes 660 gallons of water to produce. And half of U.S.’s land is used for cattle grazing! Credit to Cowspiracy for those facts. Helping the environment is the right thing to do.

Lastly, it is a change. Growing up as a kid (and still growing) I had lots of adventures, my family travels a lot and I am going to high school next year. But in terms of food I had the same lunch every day, a sandwich, some vegetables, a sweet and some popcorn. Now I can start to expand my diet and try new things.

Now, going vegetarian is a skill. You have to have a lot of self restraint. For example, if you are out with your friends at some restaurant and they all get these juicy burgers that make your mouth water and you want one soooooooo bad you might just buy one and be like “it’s only one burger”. But a wise woman once told me that if every person in the world said “its only one plastic bag” then we would have used 7.5 billion plastic bags. Also, to be vegetarian you have to be open minded. Which means that you can’t keep eating the same vegetables and fruits every day and expect to be less picky or more adventurous.

To conclude, I think going vegetarian is a great option for everyone because it is healthy, good for the environment, and it is a cool change. I will keep you updated on my process.
