I used to think that I could never go vegetarian since I ate some sort of meat almost everyday. But because of my Do One Thing (DOT) project we had to do in science class, I have now been vegetarian for basically two weeks. At first I thought that going vegetarian would be really hard, but it actually wasn’t too challenging — I just needed to have some self restraint.

In the past two weeks, I went to a couple restaurants and their menus had a lot of good looking foods. But most of the options contained some sort of meat. So although the food looked great, I had to resist the temptations and find something without meat instead. This made ordering food at restaurants a lot harder than it used to be because I had to make sure there weren’t any meat products in my food. But nonetheless, the restaurants always provided me with a nice vegetarian meal.

Sometime last week, I was talking to my classmates Kavita O'Malley, Ariana Campo, Charlotte Beers, and Mani Minerva about something (I don’t quite remember what), but the topic eventually changed to Chick-Fil-A. We talked about the chicken nuggets and the waffle fries and how they are absolutely delicious. And the Polynesian sauce, which makes everything so much better. The problem is that we all chose to go vegetarian (or pescatarian) for our DOT projects, so we won’t be able to eat those delicious chicken nuggets for a while—so sad, I know. Also, one of us kept on searching up pictures of chicken nuggets which wasn’t very helpful…*cough* Kavita *cough*.

Overall, my first weeks of being vegetarian wasn’t too bad. It consisted of a lot of self restraint and reminding myself that I couldn’t eat chicken or beef or pork, etc. Even though I thought I would completely fail, I have managed to not eat any meat…yet. And I now have a more sustainable diet, which is great. After all, you never know until you try it. So why don’t you try something to make your life more sustainable too?
