Saving Private Water

The gallons I use in a typical shower is more than the average American. A lot more. In the few days that I have recorded data for my showers, I found that my average shower is 17:57. In this time, my shower spits out 45 gallons of water. Which means that I use 2.5 gallons per minute.

Going into this I knew that I used a lot of water per shower. But I just didn’t know how much. That’s why I started this. When I save water obviously it saves more water but since I live in D.C. it actually helps the sewer system by not making the system overflow and run into the river. Besides that, it also saves my parents money. This project is a huge help and I encourage everyone to try this if you know that you take long showers. Help the planet by doing this too and saving water.

After one week of a baseline (collecting data based on my normal routine/lifestyle) I will try to cut the amount of time I take my showers by 75%. I will see what my averages are for the baseline, then the changed data, and see how much water I saved in my actual DOT.
