The end is still only the beginning

Throughout the four weeks of my Do One Thing (DOT) project my family of four composted 17 pounds of food. This means that each person saved roughly 4 pounds in a month, so 48 pounds in a year. If everyone in the US saved 48 pounds of food every year the country would compost 1,295,800,000 pounds of food per year. And if we bring that to an even greater scale the world would compost 360,000,000,000 pounds of food every year. That is a lot.

Not only did my project have an impact on my waste and could possibly have an impact on yours, it was fun and easy. My project only took a little remembering and 15 minutes every two to three weeks to turn the compost. I was also amazed to see the results of my project in just 4 weeks. I could see the waste decomposing over time and eventually I could have enough compost to do something with it.

I will definitely be continuing my project after the month is up. Not only will I be continuing my composting but now that I have the hang of it I will let my friend take it to her yard where she is going to have a bio-dynamic intensive micro-farm next year. Her project is what inspired this composting endeavor and I look forward to continuing it.

Compost was easy and I saw my results. I recommend you compost to because as you saw above we can make a difference.
