Unfortunately the word veganism doesn’t exist but the word vegan does and the definition is a person who does not eat or use animal products or using or containing no animal products. What inspired me to choose changing my dietary routine for my 8th grade science ecological footprint? How will it affect/change our world today? The answers will follow.

The main inspiration for me being vegan is the impact and importance of the documentary “Cowspiracy”. The documentary taught information that was never brought up before on the topic of climate change and global warming. For example, before the movie I believed use of fossil fuels in cars, bus and other transportation was the main emitter of greenhouse gas but after the documentary I learned 51% of greenhouse gas is emitted from animal agriculture (more than half).

The documentary also explained the affects of animal products on our world which changed my point of view on the food I eat. For instance, one pound of beef needs 2,000 gallons of water to make. This is an important fact due to the amount of beef eaten around America and the loss of water put into feeding cows that emit greenhouse gas. Being vegan not only prevents or decreases the amount of greenhouse gas being present in our atmosphere but also helps the world we live in creating a safer, healthier ecosystem, which leads to the impact of my project to our world today.

The impact of my project follows what the film Cowspiracy was teaching. If people were to stop using animal products and be vegan there will be a guarantee decrease in percentage of greenhouse gas from the largest emitter and would increase in the amount of natural resources the world provides such as water and rain forests. But without this project the damage will continue for example how animal agriculture takes 45% of Earth’s space. So in conclusion my DOT project/ecological footprint is to be vegan for a month.
