What inspired me ?

What inspired me to do my project was the very important benefits that the pescatarian lifestyle brings to the world. The benefits it has for our planet are many. The two that strike me most are first, if we stop eating beef, chicken and pork we would drastically cut down on the use of water worldwide. One pound of beef requires 2500 gallons of water to produce whereas one pound of wheat only requires 25 gallons of water. Second, the need for livestock is causing quite a lot of deforestation worldwide. It is shown that everyday enough land is destroyed to equal seven football fields in such places like the Amazon Basin just to give an example.

There are many benefits to living a pescatarian lifestyle. It reduces the amount of risk for heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, types of cancer and etc. According to the Yale College Vegetarian Society, up to 80 % are preventable through healthy diets that contain low amounts of oils and fats like the pescatarian diet. The high quantities of polyunsaturated fatty acids found in fish have been found to be cures for heart disease, depression and ADD. Also, pescatarians have a lower risk to develop iron deficiency anemia. Eating fish also combats D-3 deficiency, found in many Americans.

Lastly, found in lots of cases there is animal cruelty. Cruelty to the animal by the torture and pain they go through just to get put on so many human’s plates worldwide. For example, chickens are put in very small cages, pecking at each other causes a removal of their beak (de-beaking) this process is done to them without pain killers. Hormones are put in them so much that is causes them not to be able to do normal habits of their species, soon causing diseases causing death. Cows and pigs are way worse, they are most of the time being hung upside down and tortured. Many are slit or beheaded alive with nothing to treat the tremendous pain.
