Coronavirus and remote working

2020 seems to have started with a real bang. Talking about the end of the world not being as we had expected, no zombies or Lucifer walking on the Earth (not that we know of), but rather something more simple and boring such as a virus (and it doesn’t even give you superpowers — Hollywood, I want my money back!). But, jokes aside, since the year started with the emerged Coronavirus, the world will never be the same — at least not this year.

“Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus.

Most people infected with the COVID-19 virus will experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without requiring special treatment. Older people, and those with underlying medical problems like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, and cancer are more likely to develop serious illness.”

WHO (World Health Organisation)

The pandemic that has occupated 187 countries is predicted realistically to last 12–18 months, and its impact on the world’s economy to last 4 years. With the pandemic new set of rules and habits are written. It is as we are in a third world war but with the invisible enemy that can erase millions in just a few months.

Most of the world’s countries are on lockdown promoting #stayathome “movement” since social distancing is most likely to save the human population. Many companies shut offices and sent their employees to work from home, many like Google, Twitter, and Apple. But for the recruiting industry, remote working is well-practiced for years now.

As most of the HR and recruiting tools are online and cloud-based working from home is already established practice in the recruiting world (you are probably happy that you choose to recruit as your career, and not taming lions in the circus at this point). Most of the recruiting process is done online, in ATS, with shared files or interview scheduling, and now face-to-face interviews will be replaced with video interviews. Luckily there are plenty of options for having undisturbed video calls and conferences, like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, etc. We at ozOn are encouraging remote working, especially in times of the Coronavirus pandemic (and always if your boss is not..well..a boomer).

Forbes stated that profitability, performance, and engagement are boosted with the jobs that offer workplace flexibility, and that remote working is highly profitable for companies. Though with the new world situation remote working is imperative, where it is possible.

Statistics predicted that the remote work revolution will mark this decade even before the COVID-19 outbreak took the lengths of the pandemic, now we are sure that the remote working will revolutionize business and working forever.
