Getting up in the morning, getting dressed and going to work is a routine for most of the people. Some have been blessed with the ability to work from the comfort of their own home, but some up until the recent Coronavirus have never worked from home. We at ozOn are a remote team from the beginning and supporting #stayathome has inspired us to share some tips for working remotely.

When working from home living and working in the same space can bring you to many challenges. It is important to have some kind of separate space — a room as an office is an ideal solution, but having just a corner for working space is just fine.

Working from 9 to 5 is not exactly a remote style. Find the most productive time during the day, if it’s in the morning that’s fine — if it’s the evening that’s also fine. Don’t pressure yourself to mimic everything from your office, finding your own groove is important.

Think about the sun and all the beautiful days that are up ahead that you can spend on your balcony or front porch or back porch and be proud. You don’t have to look at the sunny weather from the windows of your office or stay inside your home — you can enjoy the weather (even if it’s within limitations).

When you’re at home working, sometimes you can forget that hopping to the closest restaurants and cafes and grabbing a bite is not going to work. Prep a meal so that you don’t have to get up and spend an hour on cooking being more hungry when you could do it earlier.

The fine line between life and work can be blurred sometimes when you’re constantly working from home and you can forget about taking care of yourself, like taking time off-screen or getting up to stretch yourself (or even taking a shower when you don’t have to dress up). Maybe you should change whenever you’re going to work and finishing, it could make a big difference. These things are important and self-care should come at first.

You imagine slightly raising your voice saying: “Sue can you hand me those reports?”, and then you send a message to Sue: “Can you share that Excel file with me ASAP!?”. However, it doesn’t have to be that way, we recommend using Slack, Discord or Telegram for communicating with your colleagues and teammates. You can create non-work-related channels and groups that can be used for entertainment and fun. Google docs and Google drive are the best suitable for sharing files and content, and for meetings and conferences use Whereby, Zoom or Google Hangouts.

Yes, being home 24/7 is a sign that you’re online 24/7 but you don’t have to be available at all costs. Talk to your teammates, figure out the best possible time and boundaries when it comes to being available. Thinking about your work all the time is not healthy and nothing can replace your health.

Remote working is about finding your own pace of how you get things done. These are just a few tips from ozOn for making your life easier. We are hoping that Coronavirus pandemic will tranquilize so that you can experience the perks of remote working and fly out to Barcelona, that you wanted to visit for a long time, whenever you want.
