She always said that the moment their eyes met, she promised herself:
“That’s the man I’m going to marry.”
Each was dating someone else at the time. To be proper, they each broke off their connections with the others before they set their first date together.
The first date followed the usual outline at the time: dinner and a movie on a Saturday night, followed by hot fudge sundaes at the mom-’n-pop ice cream shop.
Bonus: he picked her up in his beautiful blue Camero. He’d just bought it, new and outright, with cash saved up from his after-school job at the car dealership. Even at 18, he could park any vehicle in any space, no matter how tight a squeeze.
They went to different high schools, but they went to the prom together. He wore a tuxedo. Both looked lavishing and radiant.
They lost their virginity to each other in the back of that Camero.
He totaled it three months later. Thankfully, he wasn’t hurt. Airbags didn’t exist at the time.
They graduated high school. She immediately started university. He enrolled in a trade school to learn…
