Caught in the Tide

Playing in the shallows,
castles in the sand;
squealing delight, as each wave rolls to the shore.

Daddy’s close behind,
he’ll catch you if you fall.
The harbour of his hands,
held in devotion.

Not

Caught in the tide,
carried out to sea —
facing all your fears.

Strong in young adulthood,
ready to set sail;
constantly in motion, but always wanting more.

Men offer their desire,
the cost of being adored,
love and its betrayal —
thrown, but not broken.

You’re

Caught in the tide,
carried out to sea —
facing all your fears,
but so alive.

And the waves caress you, they call out your name,
toss you, and turn you, till you’re not afraid
of feelings inside, you just couldn’t contain;
till they fade away.

Stranded in still waters,
the tide’s been out too long,
you crave the blue deep ocean, you hunger for its roar.

There’s safety in the silence —
but worlds still to explore.
You dream of the mermaid’s song,
feeling so frozen.

You long to be

Caught in the tide,
carried out to sea —
facing all your fears,
but so alive,
so alive,

so glad to be alive.
