You’ll be sitting with a bucket of fried spicy chicken and the one you cherish in front of you. You’ll feel warm inside like there’s a bowl of fire between your heart and your stomach burning lightly. Not to burn you, but to break the cold.

You’ll smell your pulse take a beat.

And all you’ll want to hear will be promises of the future tied with the word forever like a red Christmas bow.

But you won’t.

He won’t tell you about how he can’t take another breath if you’re not sitting in front of him with a bucket of fried spicy chicken.

He won’t tell you that the world will stop twirling in his universe if you’re not holding his arm and brushing his hair.

He won’t shout to the top of his lungs about how he’s going to love you forever.

And your heart will ache, I promise.

But there’s a silver lining like there always is in stories like this.

You can trust his word. You can trust that whatever promise he gives won’t break easily.

You can trust that the song he hears when looking at you is one that will last as long as it does.

And when one day he gives you a “forever” promise, well, that one will last.

So don’t go looking for the one that swears his love won’t fade. Find someone who doesn’t give you “forever” promises.
