Foolish Love
They say:
Fool me once — shame on you
Fool me twice — shame on me
I wonder if this still applies to fools in love?
They say:
Love is blind
But…
Can you truly fool the blind?
Or…
Does this say more about the one who has done the fooling, rather than the one who has been fooled?
I believe the real shame rests in the comfortability one has in deceiving the vulnerable — speaking words of love to another, knowing they are thinner than the air they breathe.
I believe the real shame rests in the inability to understand the depth and beauty of human emotion, connection. Because one could not so easily fool, having felt such closeness before.
Therefore…
Fool me once — shame on you
Fool me twice — I pity you
How sad a life you must live — entrenched in a battle between wanting to be alone and constantly seeking temporary diversions to feeling lonely.
I will never apologize for foolishly loving you.
Because the souls journey to find its counter part is one to be cherished, never ashamed of.
