Moving (Out, In & On)

The hallways echo and we leave chairs on the deck,
sliding across hardwood floors in socks and love.
The quiet of the walls, the quiet of our hearts,
the gentle rise of your chest beneath my hand, wrapped around you,
skin to skin to skin.
Your profile painted by the fading light,
of all my bridges burning.
Aglow with the knowing that as long as you are here,
I will never be afraid to come home again.
How do I say thank you,
to someone I never thought I’d have?
