Spoken and unspoken words of a man who convinced me to let him break my heart.

“I love the way you react to me —
the electric jolts of your spine and the way you twitch as your belly pumps your breath into mine.

I love the way you scream.

I love our days in bed together and think that you should stay
and let me
cook for you,
take you for a walk,
bathe you,
help you,
stroke your hair as you fall asleep curled in my lap.

I love you, and I wish you could be more open to receiving my love,”

he said.

“I love you until you think,
okay, maybe this could work.

I love you until you want to spend time with me,
talk with me,
share with me,
try to know me.

I love you until you have a problem,
need a friend,
call me in tears,
ask for a hug.

I love you until I realize
that I don’t actually like you.

I love you until you love me —
and I see
that what I really love
is sex,”

he meant.
