OFF THE BEATEN TRACK

(Taken in Ubud — Bali, 2017)

I once asked you to stay,

our house would never burnt that way.

I believed in you,

I talked to you!

you walked away,

char and ash

crushed my bone and flesh

I sat down and cried, “But why?”

days and months

brought me wounds,

drama and sleepless nights

and the list of tears

a light slapped me,

woke me up from the nightmare

and I bought a ticket for a good bye,

it’s only a time to pack away

oh, I was scared to step outside and spark,

until I took separate way

and I found the real beauty in the next day,

off the beaten track.
