We Became One
A short poem about the inner demons we try to shush
‘Go to sleep,’
I said to her.
‘Let me be,’
I tried to defer.
Some days she listened,
And went away.
She stayed silent,
Dimmed her ray.
But she never truly left,
Perhaps she couldn’t.
Or maybe she was stubborn,
And she simply wouldn’t.
Every few days,
She came back strong.
Take me with you,
I need to come along.
I even tried to kill her,
Go for total riddance.
But that didn’t work either,
Sheer obstinance.
Not sure if she was desperate,
Or resilient maybe.
But she just wouldn’t listen,
I had no choice you see.
So I listened to her,
Just had to be done.
My inner voice and me,
We became one.
That day and now,
We’ve never looked back.
This lone wolf,
Now feels like a pack.
