We Could Be Honest
An honest thought in the form of a poem — even though honesty isn’t always poetic.
We could be honest
with ourselves and others.
We could practice with little things,
keeping in mind that honesty isn’t always poetic —
and that this is okay.
Instead of lying or hiding our true feelings,
we could say things like
For some reason,
you trigger behavioral patterns
that I thought I grew out of
in the 90's.
or
These days,
I’m feeling less like a human
and more like some other type of being
lost in a human body.
or
I’ve been staring
at my thighs
in downward-facing dog
and they look like an elephant’s,
and although I know it in theory,
I haven’t yet developed the ability
to see my beauty
beyond my appearance,
so would you please kiss my legs
and make me feel attractive
and,
therefore,
loved?
Honesty is simple.
What do you choose to complicate —
and why?
