reading articles is better than reading books

Sometimes, it’s better to read articles rather than a book itself.

Reading articles is now preferable to reading books.

I found out that many people are enjoying reading articles and newsletters on Medium, Substack, News, and other platforms. Reading articles is now more enjoyable because of how short and straight to the point they are. You can get a summary from a 400-page book in one 800-word article, which is crazy.

Now, reading articles is better than reading books, or isn’t?

The benefit of reading articles

Reading articles is more preferable sometimes because of how social media and instant gratification are around.

You might enjoy watching short videos or 10-minute videos to get to the point, which is fine. The same as articles, it’s not wrong to enjoy reading articles more than reading books. I enjoy short-form content too, and articles with 500 words sometimes.

But the problem with short-form content is that it just shows me how short my attention span could be.

If I can’t focus on reading a book for around 20 pages in one session, I might have trouble being focused. I have trouble with doing something that needs patience and focus. This is why it’s a problem for me to enjoy short-form content.

But…

It’s a good thing, too.

Why is it a good thing?

It’s helping me to improve my focus.

I know that I might suffer from a short attention span and how reels and YouTube shorts have ruined my focus with one-minute content. But to recover and improve our focus, I start by reading short articles, which is working.

As you can see, my articles lately are 500 words. I was conscious of that, and I’m trying to help many people to just read with ease. This helps my readers feel a sense of accomplishment after finishing an article.

With those feelings of accomplishment, we can gain more confidence to read longer articles or even books.

Even though you can read for one sentence on a book to start small, if you are trying to start from an article, a short-form article is a great way to go.

Reading books is still the best

That’s why reading articles is better than reading books sometimes.

Reading articles helps you to get to the point easily, not wasting your time, and improves your focus from reading. But most importantly, it’s better than scrolling on social media.

But still, in a context of values, reading books is far better than reading articles. I could summarize a book in one article, but it won’t be enough if I read the book by myself. That’s why reading books is better than reading articles in a different context.

So, whatever you enjoy, at least you start to read, and I’m happy for that.

Let’s eliminate our doom scrolling and replace it with reading.

Start small, but gradually improve.

Happy reading.
