You won’t believe the story of Travis, The 200-pound pet chimpanzee who turned on his owners best friend, leaving her without a face.
That all changed on February 16, 2009, when Travis attacked Charla Nash, then aged 55, and left her with life-altering injuries that would require more than one surgery over the years to treat. Such a violent attack even the most experienced animal experts admit was out of anyone’s control.
The Rise of a Celebrity Chimpanzee
Travis was born on October 21, 1995, at a Missouri chimpanzee sanctuary. He was taken by Sandra and Jerome Herold, who watched over him as he grew into a beloved family pet. Travis grew into a town celebri who made frequent appearances in commercials, TV shows, and famously learned to drive with a little help from his human friends.
