Here I have collected the main and most relevant advice on increasing the number of followers on Instagram.

For the sake of joking, I divided it into ‘tips’ and ‘tricks’ :)

  • Set Your Profile For Success (tips)

Always make sure you profile is public and bio is up to date.

Whenever anyone lands on your profile, they will first read your bio. As they say,”First impression is the last impression.

Remember, now you can mention other accounts and hashtags in your Instagram bio.

Make sure the link in your bio looks clean and not suspicious.

  • Publish many Stories a day (tips)

Today Stories is even more important than regular publications. Since it launched in August 2016, Instagram Stories has quickly gone from just a Snapchat copycat to the place to see what friends, A-listers, and influencers are doing at that moment.

If you publish ten posts in an account this will only annoy users. But even 20 stories a day will not embarrass anyone. Stories is a great way to remind followers about you and attract even more attention.

The more they see your stories, the more they see your publications.

  • Cooperate on mutually beneficial terms (tips)

I advise you to look for more opportunities for cooperation.

Collaborating with a blogger or brand influencer doesn’t have to be difficult. Just find someone who has a similar audience to yours and this audience generates about the same number of followers as you have.

Find twenty such accounts and write to everyone and offer collaboration. It’s important to find someone you want to work with, right? You can just scroll through your Instagram feed and pick anybody, right?

Well, that’s not exactly how it works. You can’t just pick anybody. You need to pick someone that works well with your products and your business. You post a publication about your partner (advertising their product or service). The partner does the same for you in their account.

It’s easy and profitable for both of you.

****** And YES, the number of followers you have matters. ******

I’m not one to really care much about how many followers I have. Yes of course, I like to grow my social media following, but I focus on my social media account’s engagement as opposed to the number of followers I have. That said, when it comes to collaborating, your numbers of followers do matter.

When looking for bloggers or brand influencers to work with, you need to make sure their style and personality will work with your brand and that you have a similar amount of followers. I’ve worked with bloggers who have had approximately 10,000 more followers than the shop’s Instagram account I was managing — those seem to be the easiest collaborations to move forward with. There’s no harm in seeing if a blogger with a much larger Instagram account (we’re talking like thousands more) would be interested in collaborating with you, but it may be more difficult to work out a collaboration with them.

  • Use official advertising in Instagram (tips)

I recommend that you use all kinds of advertising in the Instagram.

It costs money, but it gives a real result.

Especially pay attention to the possibility to pay for posts marked “sponsored.” (surely you’ve met such)

If you earn money in Instagram, it makes sense to invest in advertising your account.

  • Hashtags (tips)

Using hashtags gives you the ability to directly target everyone that will find your content valuable. When used correctly hashtags can make your content go viral.

Some examples of big hashtags are #travel #fitness #food #business #entrepreneur #success #marketing #entrepreneurship #startup #money #businessman #entrepreneurs #hustle #grind #businesswoman #wealth #successful #businessowner #Love #funny

Make sure to choose the right hashtags for your niche.

If you are posting travel content then make sure you have travel hashtags.

Use tools like http://www.hashtagify.me to find big hashtags

Be creative to find small hashtags e.g.travel + (“london”, “france”, “belgium”)

  • Focus on posting high quality content and do it regularly (tips)

When using Instagram to grow your business, it’s essential to build up an audience that is engaged and loyal to your brand. But how can you ensure these followers engage with your posts and, in turn, help you to grow as a business on Instagram? Three words: quality Instagram content.

If the pictures that you share on Instagram can be described as “eye-candy”, then you’re on the right path. Everyone will stop scrolling to take a look at your post if it’s catchy and attractive, regardless of their interests.

  • Use geotags on Instagram for local discoverability (tips)

Besides hashtags, you can also make your Instagram posts and Stories discoverable by tagging your location, either the city you’re in or the venue where the photo or video was taken.

Locations not only have their own feed on Instagram but also their own Story just like hashtags that you can contribute to when you use the location sticker in your own Stories.

  • Order real looking bot followers in your account (tricks)

This is absolutely something you have to think about. The truth is that “not everyone talks about it”, but if you want to start quickly, then you need bots.

The practice of buying bots to artificially grow an account goes wayyy back to Youtube, Linkedin when Vbloggers started buying views for their videos and subscribers for their channel.. Same goes for Linkedin followers, do a quick google search and you’ll see there are hundreds of websites offering followers for Linkedin. And why do these websites exists?? Because people, specially smart marketers that will keep their mouths shut and not reveal you their little marketing secrets, are always buying such products.

In this marketing era no one will pay you a lot of attention if your account only has 200 followers. SocialMediaCombo.com is a very popular page to start. Buy 5000–10000 Instagram followers and this will be a good start.

After that you can go completely without buying followers, (they just help you get started), and stick with the real Instagram advertising ad program. By then your account can appear as “Sponsored” with 10,000 followers and not with 200..

  • Post on Instagram at the right times (tricks)

Beyond adding the appropriate hashtags and using the best filters, you should also be considering the timing of your posts.

A targeted approach is to analyze what has and has not worked for you in the past. By visiting IconoSquare’s optimization section, you can get a detailed analysis of your posting history vs. engagement. This report will also highlight the best times of the day and days of the week to post.

The dark circles indicate when you usually post media. The light gray circles shows when your community has been interacting. The biggest light gray circles represent the best times for you to post.

  • Comment and like other people’s messages (tips)

It’s important to engage people following you. After all, if they made an effort to leave a comment on your photo, then the least you can do respond to their message. What you can also do is leave comments of your own on other people’s work, like some of their posts, etc. That way, they will probably visit your profile, see what you’re all about and perhaps decide to stick around.

  • Know your apps (tips)

Sure, you can edit within Instagram and toss a filter on it, but you should also take some time to explore apps that offer additional filters, such as Retrica and Vsco, to communities that allow you to exchange likes and improve your account, there are so many options to explore which can, in one way or another, help you make your brand and name known on Instagram), as well to figure out what you like best and what kind of editing you want to be doing on your photos versus what you know you don’t like.

Do you want your photos to appear more grainy? Do you want to decrease the temperature of your photos to make them look more blue/grey? Do you want to lean more towards higher contrast and saturation? These are all questions you can answer by playing around with these type of apps.

Like I said, these are just some of the tips (and tricks) that might help you make better use of your Instagram profile. :) Here are some more tips posted at Buzzfeed. I hope they’ll help!
