The Top 3 High School Baseball Bats

While shopping for baseball pants and uniforms, it’s worth taking a look at the Drop 3 baseball bats on the market.

The official definition of a Drop 3 bat is that they are 3 ounces lighter than the length of the bat. They can be used across all college, high school and adult leagues.

When buying a Drop 3, make sure it has BBCOR certification. This should be printed near the top of the handle. Most bats do have this certification, so there’s no excuse for getting one without it.

The next priority is to find a bat that is the right weight and size for you. There is plenty of debate about what how the weight of a bat should correlate with somebody’s height, but there is no substitute for taking as many swings as you can and testing it yourself.

Then it’s time to think about the brand. See below for the top 3:

(1) DeMarini CF8 BBCOR

The DeMarini has that ideal balance of weight and bat speed. It’s heavy enough for good hitting power but light enough to swing freely. This is largely thanks to the 100% Paradox +Plus Composite Design and Barrel, which is a lighter-than-normal barrel but with a super-strong material that doesn’t compromise on hitting power. What’s more, the D-Fusion 2.0 Handle is great at saving your hand from those nasty vibrations and the RCK Knob offers a great, comfortable grip. Finally, there’s a Low Pro End Cap which means the weight is on the hitting side of the barrel.

(2) Combat Maxum BBCOR

There have been a lot of great things written about this bat, and given the amount of pro players who use it, those reviews are probably right. Some players say this bat offers the biggest “pop” they’ve ever seen from a bat. When you have a pop like that, you can get away with mis-timing the ball a touch but still get a hit. This also has one of the lowest swing weights on the market. As if all that wasn’t enough, this bat offers a 500-day warranty as opposed to the usual one-year warranty from other manufacturers.

(3) Mizuno Nighthawk BBCOR

This is a different kind of design, sporting different wall thickness in various parts of the bat. This helps balance the swing weight and also offers a nicely sized sweet spot. The Nighthawk pioneers a super duper elastometer material that is placed between the handle and the alloy barrel. The handle in the new model has been slightly adjusted too. Combined with the special material, this is great at reducing vibrations even if you mis-time the shot.
