Men are far more likely than women to kill themselves. This trend is consistent in every single nation on Earth. There are no exceptions to it, as the below graph from Our World in Data shows.

For example, in the US, in 2017 the suicide rates for men were 20.3 men per 100,000, yet for women, they were 5.7 women per 100,000. In the UK they were better, but the rate of approximately 4 men to every 1 woman was the same — 11.4 men per 100,000 versus 3.4 women.

This is a consistent trend across the developed world, 4 men to every 1 woman.

What makes these figures especially startling is the fact that women are near twice as likely to suffer from mental health issues, with biological reasons believed to be the main reason.

Also, data from the US and other Western countries shows that women are 4 times more likely to attempt suicide.
