March felt like a quieter month for updates as we didn’t have any major releases, but a lot appended in the background. That being said, we finally made all of our code open source which is a huge milestone although most of the work to refactor the code was done in January and February.

This month we made quite a few updates to performance and ironed out a number of bugs. We also released the NCIP process and signed out the very first grant!

Nine Chronicles: Fully Open Sourced

One of the biggest milestones for Nine Chronicles is making all of the code fully open sourced. We had initially released the code for the blockchain underlying the game (Lib9C), but we had to do some refactoring of the game to make it easier to understand and modify.

This was a very important step for the team and was covered in a press release and a blog on Decrypt.

Along with this, we also updated our API to make it easier for developers to interact with the blockchain itself, which is being used in the first grant we signed (see below). Naturally, no code is worthwhile without any documentation to accompany it. To that end, we invite our community to take a look here: https://docs.nine-chronicles.com/

Nine Chronicles Improvement Proposals

We just announced the release of the NCIPs. Over the past month, our team has put together a process for the community to collaborate with us on improving Nine Chronicles. Now we are proud to introduce Nine Chronicles Improvement Proposals (NCIPs).

This is for larger updates, such as adding a guild system or in-game lobby. Small improvements are still welcome to be made here on Discord. However, any idea, big or small, it is always good to discuss them in the #💡suggestion-talk channel!

You can read more on the wiki page.

First Grant: Kosmic Dashboard

This month we signed the first grant for the Nine Chronicles ecosystem. You have probably seen Community Leader SoFloppy chatting in our Discord, especially in regards to the Swarm Miner that he started working on a few months ago. After getting more familiar with our code he sent us a proposal to build “Kosmic Dashboard”.

This project will provide a web-based dashboard UI, built on top of the Libplanet blockchain node. The UI consists of multiple modules that will be displayed in a tab-like menu. It will expand the game functionality by bringing in-game features to the web while also helping to push new features not yet developed.

Developer Updates

Developer updates are posted by the devs on to Notion where you can read more about upcoming features, bug fixes, and other known issues. The updates are now summarized on the wiki, so we will only cover the main details of each release here and invite you to read on Notion or the wiki for further information.
