This week, time has been scarce for me, so larger designs will take a while to come out. Moreover, I’m also waiting for Steve Cross’ new fan-made TRO to find inspiration for pre-Succession Wars vessels. Thus, I’m bringing you a first in this blog.

The Pocket Warship is an interesting concept within the Battletech setting. Essentially, one of the things that force general Warships to be so big is the need to equip a jump drive, which is large and heavy. If you discard that, you should be able to make a smaller vessel with generally similar features.

This is where the Pocket Warship concept stems from. Most of such vessels are simply modified dropships, eschewing cargo capacity for armor and weaponry. Such vessels became quite popular during the dark days of the Word of Blake Jihad, when light warships proved to be too vulnerable in combat for the resources they cost.

The Castrum was a vessel designed by the Republic of the Sphere — a spiritual offshoot of both the Terran Hegemony and the Blake Protectorate. One of the heaviest of its class, it would be a respected vessel during the different conflicts that permeated the Republic Era.

It is also the first Pocket Warship I’ve ever posted here. It takes 10 parts plus the base and it is quite easy to build.

Hope you like it — next week I should ride this topic and bring you some other small but interesting designs to enjoy.
