There are new feature additions to the Entgra IoT Server coming up with our latest release.

As you may already know Entgra IoT Server is the successor of WSO2 IoT server that includes facilities to manage mobile devices (MDM), manage mobile applications (MAM) and IoT devices all in a single platform.

The previous release (Entgra IoT Server 3.5.0) contained the capability to convert your Android mobile device into a kiosk!

While, our new release focuses on converting your iOS mobile device to a kiosk as well while bettering the available features with cool new add-ons. Here is a gist of the new add-ons.

Remote Certificate Install

Trusted certificates are installed to devices when attempting to connect to secured networks where this is mostly done manually after copying the certificate file to the device. This new feature allows admins to remotely install certificates for both Android and iOS devices, individual and in bulk.

Assign an App for VPN

This feature allows to assign an application to initiate a VPN connection. It shall allow to lock the device to use only a defined third party app in EMM to have as a VPN client.

Updates on Restrictions

The new release contains new restrictions updated for the devices belonging to the Android platform.

Disallow set wallpaper — This feature prevents users from changing the wallpaper of the mobile device.
Disallow Bluetooth — This configuration prevents users from being discovered via Bluetooth.
Disallow Bluetooth sharing — Disallow Bluetooth sharing prevents users from sharing files for other users with Bluetooth.
Disallow data roaming — When the device users go abroad they should not be able to use the local network.
Disallow set user icon — There can be multiple profiles created for a device. This shall restrict users other than the admin users from making changes to the user icons. This shall be specific for vanilla or pure Android devices such as Nexus which supports the multi profile functionality.
Disallow remove user — Inability to un-register the agent from the device. In other words inability to remove the user from the IoT platform.
Disallow auto-fill — The auto-saving, suggestion, and filling of credential data of the users can be seen in most devices. When enabled, this configuration it shall prevent the device from storing the credential data to suggest when logging into a particular application.

Measuring Data Usage

Ability to read data traffic, per-app usage by various applications and other device properties in Android devices. This would lead to the identification of applications using data vigorously, identification of ransomware running in the background or if an application has been infected.

Device Delete

The device deletion capabilities allow you to completely remove the device from the Entgra EMM Platform. Prior to this, the device was tagged as removed and was disabled but not removed from the databases. This has been preserved due to audit purposes. With the new feature it allows users and admins to permanently remove a device from their databases if necessary.

Ability to add operations to groups/lists of devices

Add operation was previously available for individual devices only. The IoT version 3.6.0 has improved to include Add operation for multiple device groups or lists belonging to the same OS type. This is expected to speed up your device addition and management process.

New API to notify IoT Server version releases

IoT server version shall be notified to the agents installed in the devices. This shall be imperative during server migrations etc in order to keep the agents updated with the relevant server.
