Even though it’s my personal blog, I wanted to crystallize some thoughts on Nibbol and lay down here the personal interpretation of our long term goals. Nibbol also has a critical path of achieving these goals, but I don’t want to go into details publicly. More importantly, each step depends on the previous step, and we haven’t even gotten to product / market fit for the first step of our journey, online booking platform. I expect online booking to be our main focus for the next couple years. This will be followed by distilled version of the mission on Nibbol blog when we all have more time, and then I would love to go back here and compare these two messages.

I believe there are three constituents to serve:

  1. Pets
  2. Pet Owners
  3. Veterinarians

There are three themes that are tied to what I hope to accomplish at Nibbol:

  1. Pets—I want pet owners to treat their pets as loved and rightful members of families. U.S. law treats pets as property, and pet owners differ in the way they treat their animals. I want to educate all pet owners about the importance of treating their pets right. “You become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed.” Antoine de Saint-Exupery.
  2. Pet Owners—preventative care and careful, vigilant approach to animal well-being is the seed for emotionally and financially rewarding relationship. Emotionally because the animal will live a longer life. Financially because preventative care is far cheaper than reactive care in the long term.
  3. Veterinarians—every time I meet these “unsung heroes,” I want to let the whole world know that their profession is truly special. Veterinarians don’t become who they are for money and any other opportunistic reasons—they endure enormous debt levels after vet school, they are misunderstood by pet owners all the time, and they see a lot of unpleasant things on a day to day basis. They deal with hope and happiness, but also with death and loss. You have to love what you do in order to sustain this lifestyle. Veterinarians are true missionaries.

To summarize, I believe my mission at Nibbol is three-fold:

  1. Promote pet ownership and ensure each pet owner regards their pet as a true family member.
  2. Champion preventative care and timely response to pet’s needs.
  3. Support veterinarians by understanding their needs and defending their causes.

To distill this further:

I believe my mission at Nibbol is to lengthen companion animal lives and well-being with technology.

The question “why?” still remains, and here is the answer:

Our pets give us unconditional love.

That’s why I wake up excited every morning.
