Lego Build 54 — Lupus

I’m pretty sure no one was expecting this one! This build is also meant as advice for those who think they don’t have enough bricks or experience to make their own tiny lego mecha. With little stuff, you can do good-looking builds.

In the lore, the Lupus was among the very first OmniMechs devised by the Clans. Clan Coyote, the veritable innovator in their society, came up with the idea of easily modded war machines after studying some developments from the last days of the Star League. The Coyotl and the Lupus were the first creations to come from this.

Although revolutionary, they would be superseded by more advanced designs and mothballed. This wasn’t the end for them, though. Later on, the mothballed Lupus would be resurrected as a testbed for the Heavy Laser technology and renamed the Hellfire. Even later, the production line would be restarted when the grim fighting of the Dark Age demanded new designs to be pumped out quickly.

Originally, this model was made using whatever spare parts I had laying around. It wasn’t chosen at random, either, as it was the result of a lengthy study of BattleTech lore to find what could I do with what I had at hand.

I think the end result is really good. The legs don’t move, but they don’t really need to, and the arms have limited movement. But the important part is that you can make a model to use for games or just to have around with very little resources and expenditure.

See what you have, and make a list. See what shapes you need to make, and mix and match until you’re happy. It doesn’t need to be perfect, only functional.

See, when I started making these, I went around the Internet looking for instructions or simple baselines for how people did their shapes, mostly the limbs, which were my greatest hurdle. One thing I realized is that everyone has their technique. So, I took a bit from every example I could find, until I formed my own style.

Within this line of thought, I highly advise you to do the same. You can go through my lineup and see what you can use. Most of my models are truly meant to be emulated by everyone, regardless of how many construction bricks they have. Techniques to build legs and arms, and even torsos and weapons were inspired by people all around the Internet. See what works for you, what you can use. There’s a lot to go around.

And get inspired!

Let me know what you come up with! I would love to share it around if you want to.
