【BBC Report, Japan】How ioeX Addresses the Online Update Pain Points of 50 Billion of IoT Devices in 2020

There are currently around 20 billion of IoT devices around the world, and it will increase considerably to 50 billion units by 2020 according to the statistics of Strategy Analytics, bringing a bigger scale of application scenarios in home and in office. Rapid growth and the diversity of IoT mobile devices create massive needs in internet transmission.
The Interview
BBC: How to establish a bootstrap node?
Aryan: Conventional IoT operation systems mostly adopt a centralized system to connect terminal and control ends; the multi-centralized distributed deployment approach was created later regarding the business scale and functions. However, terminal ends and device ends will connect to and be managed by the same center/sub-center always. The definition of “decentralization” of ioeX is the interaction between “distributed bootstrap nodes” and “distributed peer nodes.” The centralized system is thus replaced by the “distributed bootstrap node” which is responsible for connection only, this way, it allows each peer node to join the network via a bootstrap node that is suitable for its networking conditions instead of being designated to a centralized node. After the peer node joining the network, it will connect to other devices and become part of the network.
Transforming from a single center to distributed nodes, further allowing devices to establish a network regarding their internet condition; it is the ioeX’s definition of “decentralization”. In the initial stage, SDK of bootstrap node will not be released extensively, ioeX team will establish a certain amount of bootstrap nodes around the world to be as the infrastructure of the network. The devices used as ioeX bootstrap nodes will be server-level nodes mostly. Later, other than inviting partners to join the operation (that is, “Node Partners Recruitment Plan”), ioeX team will introduce many partners that are able to operate as bootstrap nodes from outer sources, providing them bootstrap node SDKs free of charge. Bootstrap nodes are provided and established by our partners, including those e-commerce providers who run business websites or other types of internet business operation providers.
A certain amount of rewards will be issued to bootstrap nodes for assisting numerous peer nodes to join the network based on their daily workload, and also given contribution rewards based on the traffic contribution for file transfer between peer nodes; rewards are given in IOEX. The incentive mechanism is generated by the detailed and reliable record of peer node workload and contribution.
BBS: Is there an advantage in information processing speed of bootstrap node over a centralized system?
Aryan: It is inappropriate to compare bootstrap nodes to centralized systems as we didn’t intend to replace centralized system with bootstrap nodes. The opposite concept of a centralized system is a decentralized system which is the combination of the whole construction and performance of the network itself; the differences between centralized system and the whole network will be the much proper comparison. The coverage of decentralized network, efficiency of each node, the internet environment of the node and so forth will influence the transfer efficiency between peers nodes in the network. The interaction is dynamic, the internet condition and the performance of the devices are the two major factors that influence the result of direct link between peer nodes.
BBS: Is the idea of an arbitrator obeys the original intention of decentralization?
Aryan: There is a misunderstanding here which isthe majority’s misunderstanding when it comes to ioeX. People consider that ioeX adopts blockchain to operate the decentralized network. I need to emphasize that current blockchain can not truly run a functional ecosystem. Both the operation system of blockchain or blockchain server arefalsely claimed to be issues in the current state. However, distributed synchronized accounting of blockchain is a good tool for establishing a functional ecosystem. We establish decentralized network and record workload and contribution of peer nodes via blockchain so as to integrate computing power, storage space, internet access ability of distributed nodes which are also the key elements for running the blockchain. Our mid-long term goal is to enable the direct application of blockchain in the network. An arbitrator is applied in DPOS consortium chain assisting DPOS blockchain to generate blocks (ledgers) in turns, recording workload and contribution of nodes in the network timely; this has nothing to do with the decentralization mechanism of the network and will not cause any influence. For instance, the public chain EOS adopts DPOS consensus mechanism, and EOS can be adopted to assist decentralized functions; however, for general users, it doesn’t obey the original intention of decentralization just because it adopts EOS blockchain to record/provide an incentive mechanism.
BBC: What do you think about the Japanese market?
ＭㄎAryan: Digital currency market is much well-established in Japan and the development and applications of smart devices are more diversified. We hope to collaborate with Japanese smart device providers by introducing decentralized networking functions, allowing a much more popularized network. ioeX team will offer open-sourced peer nodes’ SDK free of charge and provide consulting services, just as the initial stage of promoting Android, allowing device providers to develop more applications without concerns.
For general users, a free APP will be available for introducing and integrating current nodes to form “peer nodes,” establishing their own cloud hard drives for personal cloud and cloud backup services; everyone can easily access the network and enjoy these benefits.
When the benefits of the network gain much more recognition, it can be further introduced to device manufacturers, allowing more products to join the network and more people to benefit from information security of the network. Later, when the system operates effectively, IOEX can be the replacement of fiat money during the interaction between peers in the network; it can be issued upon contribution, or to be used according to the need of a peer node. There hasn’t been a closed loop before, it won’t affect fiat money and normal economy operation.
