What happens when you walk past a meter that is about to expire?

Dear friends,

I have a question. If you are in a city and you walk past a meter that is about to expire what do you do?

You have a few quareters in your pocket. Do you make a choice to put a quarter in the meter to extend the time? Or do you use your freedom of choice to simply walk on by?
