If you want to make Web APIs easier and standardize them you should have a look at OData (http://www.odata.org/) that is widely used by Microsoft, SAP and some others or GraphQL (http://graphql.org/) that in my opinion has the biggest chance to replace traditional REST APIs.

Both define metadata which allows programs and other tools to inspect the API and build generic apps and a great tool box for it.
