So everyone knows they should be using some sort of marketing technology, but where do you even start when you are just beginning? Especially when you’re choosing from the list of tools below!!??

OMG which tool should I use!??

Here at UpOut, we reviewed and utilized a number of tools to make ourselves a mixture of mad men and math men. Here are our recommendations on how to get started (Note: We started with all of these tools but not necessarily what we use today)

Before you do anything, get Segment installed; will make it a breeze to install a number of future marketing technologies. Track all your “events” (events: any specific user behavior you want to track, e.g. signing up, making a purchase, etc.) once, and it sends it to any number of other tools without any developer coding needed. (Free for 50,000 events)

Analytics

  • Google Analytics — completely free, extremely powerful
  • Mixpanel — 25K free data points, 200K additional with website badge (i.e. include a little Mixpanel logo on your website somewhere)

A/B Testing

  • Optimizely — Free for 50K MAUs, super easy to use

Marketing Automation

  • Mailchimp —Email marketing, free for 2K subscribers, 12K emails per month
  • Hellobar — Free for 25 clicks, $4.95 for 100 clicks, simple tool that allows you to create a bar at the top of your website to drive clicks or email subscribers (also supports lightbox pop ups and other features)

So hopefully, I’ve laid out some of the basics. But stay tuned. This is just the beginning of a series where I plan on writing more in depth posts on how we use each tool.
