When I had cancer, a few people told me that ‘everything happens for a reason’, and I have to admit that I had a few fantasies about stamping on their toe for the reason that I wanted to.

I don’t believe that my illness was a preordained lesson or that someone sitting on a cloud decides to uproot anyone’s life for a hidden reason.

I had a few cells that went rogue.

Ben came off his motorbike and lost both his legs as a result of the accident. His girlfriend couldn’t deal with his lengthy hospital stay, and they broke up, but Ben went on to get close to his nurse, whom he later married.

He often said that his wife was the reason for his accident. Naturally, a few of his friends privately commented that if his wife had been spiritually selected for him, Match.com would have been an easier route.
